OUR DALMATIAN PUPPIES
As breeders of high quality Dalmatians, health and temperament are our main priorities, as well as producing puppies that reflect as closely as possible the ideal Dalmatian as described in the standard. As such, our puppies' parents have been carefully selected, are health tested, have great dispositions, and beautiful conformation! Each Dalmatian puppy bred by us has been raised with the greatest of care and comes with a lifetime of advice. We usually raise only one or two litters per year to ensure the puppies receive plenty of attention and socialization. Our puppies are born in our home so they get lots of love and handling right from the start!

HOW TO ADD A GATEWAY FARM DALMATIAN TO YOU FAMILY
We encourage those interested in a Gateway puppy to first request a questionnaire. Once completed, email the questionnaire to us at [email protected]. If it looks like your lifestyle will suit a dalmatian, we will contact you to discuss our current puppy availability and to add you to our no-obligation "interested" list. Preferences will be noted with regards to gender, color, degree of spotting, etc. Once we know a litter is on the way, you will be contacted a second time to see if you are ready to add a puppy to your life! A $500 non-refundable deposit at that time will put you on our waiting list and be applied towards the overall purchase price.
When it is time to choose your puppy, if we do not have one who meets your specifications, we will happily apply your deposit to a future litter. Since we are making a commitment to you, we do not refund deposits if you simply change your mind, or purchase a puppy from another breeder.
OUR PUPPY PLACEMENT POLICY
Puppies are not assigned until after they have their BAER hearing test at approximately 6 weeks of age. After that we place our "stars of the class" in show/guardian homes (see below and the link from the drop down window above regarding our Guardian program), and then the pet puppies are placed more or less according to the order we have received the deposits. We prefer that people come in person to choose their puppy, to see which one tugs at their heartstrings and to get a feel for the temperament they think will suit their family best. We give each family plenty of time to spend with the puppies before making a decision. You may let us know in advance which puppy you like from the pictures posted, but again, we cannot guarantee that puppy will be available when it's your turn to pick. Please let me know if you have any questions or need clarification.
CONTRACTS
Our puppies sell for $2,000-2500 regardless if they are going to a pet, show, and/or Guardian Home.
Pet Contract
Unless other arrangements have been made, all of our puppies are placed with a spay/neuter contract and Limited AKC Registration. Under the pet contract the puppy will be sold outright with the requirement that he or she will be spayed or neutered at the appropriate age and never bred. Dogs with Limited registration receive AKC registration papers and are still eligible for all of the performance activities and events, but are not to be used for breeding.
Our Guardian Program
Because we do not believe the "kennel" lifestyle is what's best for our dogs, we have implemented a Guardian program. In an effort to keep moving our breeding program forward, we are willing to refund some or all of the purchase price for those puppies that are show quality and/or exhibit potential for future breeding. With this program, we place the best puppies from each litter with a nice family and, although our hope is that you would enjoy competing in AKC events such as conformation and/or any of the AKC performance events, most important is that the puppy has a great, loving home where they will be spoiled and live inside. Once mature these special puppies are evaluated to see if they should be considered for use in our breeding program. We will do all the health testing and breed/whelp/raise the puppies at our place, but the adult otherwise gets to remain a part of your family for the rest of their lives! Our adults are retired from breeding after one or two litters and get to remain in the home with the family they’ve always been a part of!
However, it is a commitment that we take very seriously, and it should be considered in length. We will screen all potential homes. For further information regarding our Guardian program click on the link from the drop down menu above. If you think you would like to participate in our Guardian program and keep Gateway Farm Dalmatians moving forward with each generation, call us at (209) 327-6858 or email [email protected].
You must live in Northern CA. to be considered for the Guardian Program
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH YOUR PUPPY:
Lifetime Breeders Assistance
Every litter and puppy is carefully planned and we are here for the life of your dog. If, at any point you have questions or need guidance, we encourage you to contact us. We want to see each puppy healthy, happy, and well cared for.
DNA Testing for the Low Uric Acid Gene (if applicable)
Depending on the parents, puppies may have a 50% - 100% chance of acquiring the LUA gene and they will be tested for the gene at three weeks of age. The results of this test will be sent home with the puppy. You can read more about LUA Dalmatians by copying this link in your browser: https://www.luadalmatians-world.com/enus/
Microchipping
For the safety of our puppies and purpose of recording health tests, all puppies will be microchipped and receive a pre-paid lifetime enrollment in AKC Reunite.
BAER Hearing Tested
Dalmatians are prone to being deaf in one or both ears, so for this reason all puppies will be tested using Brainstem Auditory Evoked Responce (BAER). This test will be done between 5-7 weeks of age. The results will be disclosed right away, and included in the puppy pack. In the event that the puppy of your choice is deaf in BOTH ears we will allow one of the following:
1) Move your deposit to a hearing puppy.
2) Apply your deposit to another puppy or a future litter.
3) Or if you're suitable for a deaf puppy and willing to adopt, we will discount the price.
Deworming and Vaccinations
Your puppy will have received age appropriate deworming and vaccinations when they go home with you. In addition we will provide a document showing that your puppy received a recent Wellness exam from a licensed veterinarian.
AKC Registration
We will register your puppy for you and all puppies will have the Gateway prefix in their name. It’s important to us that your puppy’s identity is documented. And even if you are just looking for a great pet now, you may decide to to try the many activities and events the AKC offers in the future! Start thinking of name choices for your new arrival!
